IDC recently released its SD-WAN infrastructure forecast, which shows that SD-WAN revenue in 2018 was $1.37 billion, up 64.9% year-on-year. It is predicted that by 2023, the SD-WAN market will reach $5.25 billion. More interestingly, the report shows that Cisco has the largest market share, accounting for 46.4%, VMware accounted for 8.8%, ranking second behind Cisco, followed by Silver Peak, 7.4%, Nokia's Nuage Networks accounted for 4.9%.

The company's revenues listed by IDC include hardware and software, but do not include managed services (installation or operation) and connectivity. But compared to other common SD-WAN market size reports, such as IHS Market, SD-WAN market revenue is another. The latest IHS report covers the SD-WAN market revenue for the first quarter of 2019. The report only calculates SD-WAN software revenues including equipment, control and management software. It shows that VMware accounts for 20.3%.
