They were on the verge of reaching their lowest ODI total—54 against Sri Lanka in 2000—at 35-6 in 13.1 overs. However, they got closer to the 100-run threshold thanks to a brilliant blow from Hardik Pandya and a 25-run partnership between Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. It was the first time India had played without both Dhoni and Kohli since 2015. Boult completed his quota of 10 overs with an outstanding bowling result of 5 for 21.
Rohit Sharma, the acting captain, played in his 200th ODI. However, this historic game was not worth recalling because India was dismissed for just 92 runs, the lowest total in their history.

1. 54 vs Sri Lanka, October 29, 2000
With the aid of Sanath Jayasuriya's record 189-run innings, Sri Lanka amassed 299 runs. In response, India was bowled out for a meagre 54 runs, with only three and five runs scored by Ganguly and Tendulkar, respectively. The fact that it was the tournament final caused many supporters to be hurt.
2. 63 vs Australia, 8 January 1981
The bowlers from Australia were unmatched on a sunny Sydney morning. Greg Chappell was able to take five wickets and limit the opposition to 63 runs. Australia needed 174 balls to win by 9 wickets. The Man of the Match went to Greg Chappell.
3. 78 vs Sri Lanka, 24 December 1986
Rain forced the game to be limited to 46 overs each side, but Sri Lanka still managed to score 195 runs. The Indian team lost by 117 runs as a result of their inability to mount a defence. In addition to taking four wickets and scoring 31 runs, Arjuna Ranatunga was named Man of the Match.
