~ 'Happy Accident' Analog Devices / ADI Stereo Sound Models ~
These use the 'Magically Great' Analog Devices 'AD1984' chip.
Way better sounding than anything from Realtek, Creative, etc.
OptiPlex 755 MT = Intel Q35 chipset, & 305 watt standard ATX power supply (open frame so switch OK =) 2 PCI slots, but can't fit big long (2 space) PCIe (Express) video cards =P
OptiPlex 760 MT = Intel Q43 chipset, & 305 watt standard ATX power supply (open frame so switch OK =) Like 755 but no floppy port, but adds display port & ESATA =) Slightly better graphics speed 2. 2 PCI slots, but can't fit big long (2 space) PCIe (Express) video cards =P
OptiPlex 780 MT = Intel Q45 chipset, standard ATX 305 watt power supply. Looks the same as the other 2 above (755, 760). 2 PCI slots, but can't fit big long (2 space) PCIe (Express) video cards =P
Precision T3400 = Intel X38 Express chipset, & 525 watt power (proprietary non-standard) power supply. Different case design, & more space inside for adding cards =D Even big multi-space long ones! 3 PCI slots = wish they had 4 but hey...
NOTE: Yez there R many other modelz with great chips like those listed here but they have other system issues like noisy fans or whatever. Shopping is "A Process Of Elimination" rather like sport ~ subtracting those most flawed until U find the least flawed ('kuz nuthinz purfekd! =)) Wood luv if my 2 faves the AD1984 & AD1981B were available on add-in cards as so truly glorious, but 'tiz an impurfekt werld ~ perchance 2 dream! ~;^D I happened upon these gems by accident, wondering Y some PCs were so much more fun 2 listen 2. 1 thing I noticed rather quick 4 instance is 'aliasing distortion' with everything from Realtek, Creative, & Ensoniq forcing odd resampling of CD content, messing up the vibe. If you're not @ native 48Khz or some multiple you're basically skrood 'kuz wont' even auto-switch! We can do better.
Yea Koz U may B Thinkin' Now, Y Bother With All This?
Aaah... The SOUND! =D MOZT HAV!
~ C-Media / IDT Surround Sound Models ~
Better sound than Realtek, Creative, etc., but ADI best 4 stereo
ADI surrounds R bright & don't map map channels right
Dimension 9200 = Intel 945 chipset, & standard (non-proprietary) 375 watt ATX power supply with open frame so can even use models with switch! =) Big tower style, NOT the mini 'c' / '9200c' version. Includes Toslink (optical) digital audio out. 3 PCI slots (GR8 4 'Retro-Computing' =) & Room 2 fit big long 2 space PCIe video cards =D
XPS 410 = Intel P965 Express chipset, & standard (non-proprietary) 375 watt ATX power supply with open frame so can even use models with switch! =) Same motherboard & case design as Dimension 9200 = same machine with different name? Includes Toslink (optical) digital audio out. Same awesomeness with loads of space 2 put big video cards & 3 PCI & so on...
XPS 420 = Intel X38 Express chipset & standard (non-proprietary) ATX 375 or 425 watt ATX power supply with open frame so can even use models with switch! =) Angular case version of ones above, with similar motherboard, includes both Toslink (optical) and RCA-based S/PDIF digital audio out. 3 PCI slots & can accept big long 2 space PCIe video cards = WHOOP!
XPS 700 = NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP chipset for Intel, 750 or 1,000 watt (proprietary non-standard pin assignment) power supply. 3 PCI slots (very important =) HUGE very 'artistic' case design 'gaming' theme. These come in different colors, like red, black, silver, etc.
XPS 710 = NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI MCP chipset, 750 or 1,000 watt (proprietary not ATX) power supply & 3 PCI slots.
XPS 720 = NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI chipset, 750 or 1,000 watt (proprietary not ATX) power supply & 3 PCI slots.
