Quartzite is a hard, non-foliated metamorphic sandstone. When a sandstone, rich in quartz comes under heat, pressure and chemical activity under the earth’s crust, it transforms into an ultra-strong quartzite. Spiritually, quartzite is associated with stability and other positive changes in a human’s life. It is believed that it helps to prevent us from going back to our old state after we experience an elevating change in our lives like an uplifting therapy or spiritual enlightenment.  Quartzites have veining patterns almost similar to marbles and are growing popular amongst homeowners for their beautiful appearance. They can be used for walls, floors, stairs, tops and roof finishing. They are popularly available in two different thicknesses; 20mm and 30mm, and two different polishes; polished and matte. In terms of toughness and stain resistance, they can beat granite.

Quartzite is a metamorphic rock formed when quartz-rich sandstone or chert gets exposed to high temperatures and pressures. The unique sedimentary texture and structures of the sandstone are erased during the metamorphism. They undergo recrystallization forming a bond between silica and quartz resulting in a cluster of interlocking quartz grains with great strength. Quartzite worktops share a similar veining pattern with marbles and colour scheme with granites hence are often confused for them. Quartzite is a durable material but less dense than quartz, therefore, staining can pose a threat to the work surface.

Uses of Quartzite Countertop 

In the Palaeolithic age, humans made tools out of quartzite, as they were sturdier when compared to flint or obsidian.
