The U.S. Major League Baseball Dodgers announced on the 10th (Korea Standard Time) that "Kershaw will continue to accompany the Dodgers."
Local media in the U.S. said on the 7th that Kershaw agreed to a residual contract with the Dodgers, and Kershaw appeared at Glendale Camelback Ranch, Arizona, USA, the Dodgers' spring camp training ground, on the 9th.
As the Dodgers officially announced the contract with Kershaw, reports on the terms of the contract continued.
"Kershaw is guaranteed a $5 million salary in 2024. Depending on the number of appearances, Kershaw's income this season could increase to $12 million," The Athletic said. "After the 2024 season, Kershaw will decide whether to extend his one-year contract. If he extends his contract, he will be guaranteed $5 million in 2025 and set a similar level of incentives."
Kershaw, who made his big league debut with the Dodgers in 2008, has played for only one team, posting 210 wins and 92 losses in his career with a 2.48 ERA.
He is called a "living legend" who booked a membership in the Hall of Fame.
Kershaw won the Cy Young Award three times (2011, 2013, 2014) and was named the National League Most Valuable Player (MVP) in 2014.
Although his heyday is over, he also played 13 wins and 5 losses with a 2.46 ERA in last year's regular season.
However, he suffered from poor postseason performance. Kershaw's career postseason record is 13-13 with an ERA of 4.49.
Kershaw, who became a free agent after the end of the 2023 season and underwent shoulder surgery, signed a "contract with more options than guaranteed salary" with the Dodgers on the day the Dodgers began their spring camp in 2024.
"I think it's a contract that will lead the club and me in a good direction," Kershaw said. "It will be a good motivation for me to choose whether to extend the contract a year later."
