No Such Thing as ASSAULT RIFLE

The term “Assault Rifle” is a politically charged, ad hominem term intended to denigrate and characterize law abiding gun owners as inherently dangerous. The "AR" in AR-15 refers to the arms manufacturer, ARMALITE.

Those who would like to undermine the 2nd Amendment with unconstitutional gun law restrictions would have you believe the "AR" stands for ASSAULT RIFLE, but it does not.

No manufactured rifle carries the designation of "Assault Rifle" and no manufacturer's gun catalog will list a semi-automatic rifle as an "assault rifle". Instead, modern sporting rifles carry the generic designation of, M-4, M-16, M-2, AR-15 etc.

The AR-15 style rifles have a "political" reputation for appearing "scary" largely when the rifle is so frequently used in movies and video games where SWAT TEAMS outfitted in black military garb, helmets and bullet-proof vests charge into homes and buildings after breaking down a door.

Campbell Thompson.jpgBy contrast, the fully automatic Thompson Machine Gun (Tommy Gun) has never been called an "assault rifle". It was developed in 1918 during prohibition where criminals sprayed dozens of .45 caliber bullets with a single pull of the trigger.

So, the term "assault rifle" is a pejorative term, not unlike "conspiracy theory" used by corrupt politicians to denigrate millions of law abiding majority of gun owners with the aim of undermining the first amendment by assaulting the 2nd amendment.
