Hey, Homeowners!
It's about leather vs. poly fabric cover. .On a serious note, buying a sofa could be confusing. There are a lot of different choices to make in the search for the perfect sofa. Should it be modern or classic? High or low back? What color? What size? But, one of the hardest questions is,
“Should I buy a leather or poly fabric cover?”
⁶Before we start, let me tell you something first. Some of you might know this already, but there are others who don’t, so let’s break their innocence.
Leather and leatherette.
I was once confused about these two, I once believed they meant the same. They don’t, but almost. Leatherette is just a replica of leather, another term is faux leather. Its features are not that far from the original minus the fact that it’s cheaper and durability wise, of course real leather wins.
So, I guess we are ready. Rolling! Poly fabric sofa is a common choice than leather sofa ‘cause it’s less formal which is perfect for families who love to spend time in their living room, or, if you don’t want to spend a huge amount of budget.
While leather is for the drama. Classic. And can always blend in any mood. Let’s dig in some more.
Their difference when it comes to style, comfort, how safe they are when it comes to health, who handles damage well, and of course, who’s budget friendly? When it comes to style, fabric sofas come in many different style choices and if the design of house no longer matches the rest of the room it can be reupholstered. On the other hand, leather sofas don’t have many colors and shades to choose from and that they are never going to provide the pop of color that some living rooms need to brighten up a space.
Material wise, fabric sofas are generally much more comfortable than leather sofas are. It’s not just the material, overall comfort also comes from the structure and quality of the frame and cushions, but to have it in fabric is much more comfortable.
While leather sofas tend to be just as comfortable as fabric, they are much warmer to sit on and sometimes it gives you that sticky feeling especially if they are exposed to sunlight. Leather does not hold fur and dirt unlike fabric sofas that can trap allergens. Fabric is not a great option for the family who suffers from allergies especially if there are pets in the home.
It’s almost impossible to scratch fabric sofas the way that leather sofas can be scratched, and these unsightly marks won’t even lower the appearance of the sofa. But, when it comes to liquid spills, leather takes home the trophy—it’s waterproof! As long as the spills are wiped up quickly, you don’t have to worry about staining or damaging the leather. Obviously, leather sofas are much more expensive than fabric sofas.
You can opt for faux leather/leatherette sofas instead of the real one. Whereas buying poly fabric sofas is a great bang for your buck since they are available in a wide price range. Leather is very easy to clean—usually requiring a light dusting or rubbing down a couple of times a year whereas fabric needs to be vacuumed and cleaned regularly since dust, dirt, and fur can easily cling to it. Also, strong smells such as food can be trapped in the fabric and cause the sofa to smell bad.
There you have it! Is it a yes for poly fabric, or for leather? I know who the real winner is. Well at least for my lifestyle, Well there are still a lot of things to know and to consider but both have their own pros and cons but both can be effective, beautiful, and can make your home inspiring.
You just have to know what you really want; careful planning, and once you have it make sure to give it proper care. Let us know of your thoughts in the comment section below.
