For many years, investing in ‘bricks and mortar’ has long been considered a secure investment that will, over a period of time, increase in value. But it’s not always easy to find investment properties for sale in the UK, or it’s a case of constantly just missing the boat as yet another potential investment property passes you by.
So, where’s the best place to find investment properties for sale in the UK and how can you be first in the queue when a new investment property comes to the market?
What is an investment property?
First of all, let’s clarify what constitutes an investment property. An investment property is one that has been bought purely to generate an income, i.e. through a rental income or capital from the sale of the property. There are a variety of ways to invest in properties for sale in the UK, these include:
-
Buy-to-let investments – investing in a residential property that will then be rented to someone else.
-
Property development – investing in land or a derelict property to pull down and build a new property.
-
Buy a new build to sell on – investing in a new property off-plan, i.e. before it is physically built, to sell on once the build has been completed.
-
Buy a property to refurbish or renovate – investing in a property that requires extensive renovation or basic refurbishment to sell on or rent out.
-
Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) – invest in a property fund, or trust, with other investors to buy properties for sale in the UK that are rented out, and returns are paid to the investors.
-
Property crowdfunding – investing in a share of a property.
-
Property lending – investing with others to provide resources for a person or company to purchase a property, secured by a property the borrower owns.
