BIBL 104 Discussion Board: 3-2-1 Week Seven Discussion Board

   Three key ideas

There is a clear distinction between the purpose of the law and the purpose of the Gospel. Pastor Grunewald states, "Law and gospel function differently but work in tandem so that sinners will recognize their sin and cling to their Savior" (Grunewald, p. 19).  Thus, a relatively short but excellent study of Romans and with it the Gospel. Pastor Grunewald states an individual started to believe when she or he was exposed as a sinner, he applies the law to be righteous, and then Gospel saves. The Gospel promises that if one follows the law, he will receive a reward for everything needed in the death and resurrection of Jesus- by obeying God's laws.

The examination of righteousness is another crucial idea. The author argues that we can go astray by having incorrect thoughts of what righteousness is. Due to the incessant internal conflict between right and wrong, we tend to stray from God's laws. The author uses difficulties within Roman passages to comment on the issue of righteousness. Therefore, Grunewald states, "the apostle intends that the total righteousness of man leading to salvation depends on the Word through faith and not on good works through knowledge" (Grunewald, P. 47).

There is a relationship between the power of the Gospel and life. Grunewald's writes, "We need churches that use the power of the Gospel to bring people life" (Grunewald, p. 89).  Thus, we use the Gospel to seek righteousness so we can resurrect back to life.

Two things learned

I have learned our freedom relies on believing in Jesus Christ. Thus, we must avoid being self-absorbed as it helps focus on issues affecting our society. He states, "Law and gospel function differently but works in tandem so that sinners will recognize their sin and cling to their Savior" (Grunewald, p. 111). Thus, cling to Jesus Christ improves our freedom.

All believers should learn the book reading as it taught us about Christianity. Through this reading, we have more new perspective about God's word. Thus, "God's law and Gospel are both necessary. They function in different ways, yet work together."

One way to use class reading

There are different ways to apply these lessons learned in this week's class readings. However, it will apply God's laws and Gospel in daily endeavors to remain an outstanding citizen of our nations. "God's law and the Gospel are both necessary. They function in different ways, yet work together" Grunewald, p.29). For example, love is God's law that can help us all prosper.
