The Hill is severe. It's high, smooth, cold, uninviting, unfamiliar. Only its frustrating austere presence will do to frighten most people away. It has a great deal of courage to also consider climbing the Pile, and of course the energy and time involved in their ascent. More over, those who effectively rise it strangely never return, which frightens most of the Pit Ground residents. Why move to all that trouble and endure the hardship of a dangerous and difficult climb and never be noticed from again?
