Do you want to start a discussion? Tell a discerning traveler that such-and-such a hotel has the world's greatest art collection. Wait and see what happens. You'll almost certainly be involved in a vigorous debate - or quarrel.
I've compiled my own Top 10 list. And I'm all for debate. Property finder
10: 21C Museum Hotel, Louisville, Kentucky, United States of America
Despite its name, the hotel's structures are from the nineteenth century, and they were formerly used as tobacco and bourbon warehouses. This 91-room hotel, on the other hand, boasts a fantastic collection of contemporary art. It's not just modern, but it's also multi-media; you'll never look at ordinary materials the same way again.
9: Florence, Italy's Four Seasons Hotel
The construction of this hotel took more than seven years. They discovered a medieval fresco every time they started working. Every time this happened, a city agency of some kind had to be consulted before work could resume. However, what's above ground now shines out, including 12 bas-reliefs of paintings by Michelangelo's master, Bertoldo di Giovanni.
8: Hong Kong's Island Shangri-La
Have you ever seen a 16-story work of art? You certainly can at this hotel. The 250 delicate silk panels that make up the towering painting "The Great Motherland of China" dominate the atrium. It took 40 artists, six months, and 40 artisans to complete. Take the glass elevator to the top for a breathtaking view of one of the hotel's numerous works of art.
ITC Maurya Hotel, Delhi, No. 7
From top to bottom, the Maurya was created with traditional Indian culture in mind. Its magnificent art collection depicts the second and third century B.C., a period of huge empires, riches, and stories. The works were developed in a variety of media by India's greatest artists. And the hotel staff will be happy to show you around.
6: Hyde Park, London's Mandarin Oriental
If you can afford to stay in the Royal Suite, you can probably afford to buy one or two of the authentic Old Masters paintings that hang on the walls...which are on sale. If you can't afford it, you can still immerse yourself in original Old Master paintings throughout the property.
5: The James Hotel in Chicago, Illinois, United States of America
Everywhere you look at The James Chicago, there is an eclectic, ever-changing collection of art. Local galleries and artists are frequently partnered with the hotel. The most prominent sculpture is by Joel Ross, a local artist who has dismantled an actual Texas hotel room, as well as some vintage old bags, and transformed them into "Room 28."
Rodwell House is located in St. James, South Africa.
Rodwell House, built by a gold-mine billionaire, sits regally on a hill with a panoramic view of the ocean in St. James, a lovely village just outside Capetown. This hotel is brimming with works by South African artists, allowing you to peer into the country's and people's sometimes stormy souls. You may not recognize their names if you are not from South Africa. But you'll never forget what they did for you.
3: Athens, Greece's Semiramis Hotel
The Semiramis' owner, Dakis Joannous, possesses one of the world's best private collections of contemporary art, which he has graciously chosen to share with his guests. This bright-pink, 51-room hotel stands out as a beacon of modernism and eclectic taste in thousands-of-year-old Athens. Art may be seen everywhere over the Semiramis... and it's quite spectacular.
2: Zurich, Switzerland's Dolder Grand
The architecture, like everything else about the Dolder Grand, is artistic. Foster + Partners, a prominent London architectural firm, remodeled the hotel in 2008. The hotel's owner, Urs Ernst Schwarzenbach, has scattered over a hundred pieces from his own collection throughout the property, including works by Salvador Dali, Camille Pissarro, and Fernando Botero.
The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, Colorado, United States of America, No. 1
I'll admit it: I'm a sucker for Western art. The Broadmoor has more than any other hotel in the United States. Except for the American Museum of Western Art in nearby Denver, it has more Western art than almost any other museum in the United States. There's a reason for this: they're both owned by the same individual. This full-service resort with 744 rooms is nestled among 10,000-foot mountains. It's also jam-packed with works by some of history's greatest Western artists, including Frederic Remington, Charles Russell, Albert Bierstadt, Thomas Moran, and Alfred Jacob Miller. A stroll through these oak-paneled corridors is like visiting a world-class museum.
That's all there is to it, guys. Let the discussion begin.
