US Commercial Casinos Win Record in First Quarter of 2023

U.S. commercial casinos recorded record profits of $16.6 billion in the first three months of 2023. This is the best three-month sales period for the domestic commercial gaming industry.

The American Games Association (AGA) reported on Tuesday that the total sales volume (GGR) for games for commercial purposes reached a record $16.6 billion in the first quarter of 2023. This period was highlighted in March, when sales rose to $5.9 billion, making it the best month ever.

Bill Miller, president and CEO of AGA, said, "The U.S. game industry, which has grown for the second year in a row, is stronger than ever. "With record growth in all fields, from professional casinos to mobile games, American adults continue to choose games as one of the best entertainment opportunities."

Brick and mortar games, also called "traditional" or "legacy" games, accounted for most of the sales in the first quarter at $12.3 billion. This exceeds the last quarter's highest agricultural quarter, which was set at $12.26 billion in the third quarter of last year.

The legitimate EyeGaming platforms in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Delaware and West Virginia have added nearly $1.5 billion. The licensed osmaker added $2.79 billion in quarterly sales to the stakes of over $31.1 billion. Both sports bets are quarterly highs.

Record of tax benefits

With the release of sales figures for the first quarter, AGA, a prestigious group of DC-Lobby, representing the country's commercial and tribal interests, published the "State of Statutes 2023". In its comprehensive review, the AGA found that the U.S. game industry won record profits last year.

Last year, commercial games were held by state and local authorities with a direct gaming tax of $13.48 billion. This is an increase of 2021. Tax revenues don't include the billion-dollar income and sales taxes that the casino collects.

"As one of the country's largest taxpayers, we know that if the game is successful, our community will also be successful," Miller added. "In addition to our significant tax contribution, our industry is rooted in the local community, strengthens economic development through job creation, supports local charities and NGOs, and sets standards for corporate responsibility.

AGA announces that 34 states and the special district of Colombia have introduced commercial games in some form in the first quarter of 2023.

The vine

The U.S. commercial gaming industry, in the eighth quarter of a row, grossed $16.6 billion from January to March, significantly exceeding the GGR value of $15.85 billion.

The enhanced measures will be seen at the national level. AGA said 18 of the 35 commercial gaming areas set a new sales record in the first quarter. Since the first quarter of 2022, only one state in Mississippi has experienced a decline in GGR.

While retail games continue to dominate the GGR environment, $12.3 billion in land-based profits account for about 75 percent of sales in the first quarter, while iGaming and online sports books account for the remaining 25 percent. AGA says it's the largest share of the Internet gaming market.
