Overview
The BMW Group has announced that sustainability and resource efficiency are central components of their strategic business plan for the next 10 years. To that end, by the end of 2021, BMW will offer five fully electric vehicles:
- BMW i3
- MINI Cooper SE
- BMW iX3
- BMW iNEXT
- BMW i4
BMW lineup of cars will feature four highly efficient drive technologies:
- Diesel engines with 48-volt electric system
- Gasoline engines with 48-volt electric system
- Electrified plug-in hybrids
- Fully electric BEV models
The stated goal is to offer 25 electrified BMW models by the end of 2023, half of which will be fully electric. The popular BMW 5 series and 7 series models are included in these targets.

BMW i3
This zippy four-seat hatchback has the simplicity and style you’ve come to love from BMW. The fully electric motor produces 170 hp, which makes this small car feel nimble and quick. It has a range of roughly 150 miles per charge, but an optional two-cylinder gas engine can extend that range to 200 miles. The rear-hinged back doors make loading the back seats a breeze. This fabulous car is forward thinking, fashionable, and fun to drive.
BMW i8
The i8 is a hybrid sports car that features a 3-cylinder turbocharged 1.5-liter gas engine, an 11.6-kWh battery pack, and two powerful electric motors. This trio of high-engineered power sources creates a total of 369 horsepower. I8 owners enjoy leather upholstery, heated form seats, a head-up display, premium sound, and Apple CarPlay integration. It goes from 0 to 60 in 4.1 seconds and gets over 35 miles to the gallon on highways.
