Two interconnected factors—increasing freshwater demand and the disappearance of sustainable freshwater reserves—lead to water shortage. Global water consumption increased at a rate that was more than twice as fast as population growth over the past century. Due to the difficulty of providing water services in dry locations, several regions are now becoming close to their sustainable water supply limits. The water security in Maharashtra, India at the moment is difficult and complex.
