Music has a unique effect on our emotions, can either make us happy or sad or even exacerbate the feelings we have now. Studies have shown that music can help keep you calm, even to the point of lowering your heart rate and blood pressure, which in turn lowers your stress cortisol, making you feel more at ease. While just listening to music helps, research has shown that learning to play an instrument brings comfort and daily repetition that helps keep stress at bay. Music can help reduce stress by helping people communicate, says psychologist Michael Jolkovski, who says, “… (music) can satisfy the need for rest from health problems, but unlike other things people use for this purpose, such as overeating, drinking, or TV or web browsing aimlessly, it enables people to live and communicate. ”Psychologist Jane Collingwood reiterates the claim that music can reduce stress by saying,“… music can have a powerful effect on our minds and bodies, especially slow, peaceful music. This type of music can have a positive effect on our body function, reducing heart rate and heart rate, lowering blood pressure, and lowering stress hormones. ”
