Despite the fact that there are various government facilities for the mentally retarded, there is still a sizable supply gap that many NGO for the mentally challenged in Delhi are working to close. People with mental disabilities are treated on an equal basis with everyone else in society. Even if there exist laws and precedents that provide them with certain rights, there is a recognised need for reform in this area. Since this subject lacks overtly political undertones, it has not received the attention it deserves.
