1st and 2nd team coaches left, why was the close-knit Lee Seung-yeop division disbanded?

Doosan's coaching staff of Seung-yeop Lee, who provided a strong anchor around this time last year, was disbanded after just one year. It wasn't just one or two coaches leaving, but five people from the first and second teams decided to change teams.

A Doosan Bears official said in a phone call with OSEN on the 26th, “The transfer of five coaches who were with us for the 2023 season to other teams has been confirmed.”

The coaches who left Doosan are 1st team batting assistant coach Kim Joo-chan, 1st team base running coach Ko Young-min, 2nd team pitching coach Jeong Jae-hoon, 2nd team operations/defense coach Kim Woo-seok, and 2nd team operations/base running coach Yoo Jae-shin. Coaches Kim Joo-chan, Ko Young-min, and Yoo Jae-shin were confirmed to transfer to the Lotte Giants, where former Doosan coach Kim Tae-hyung took over, coach Jeong Jae-hoon was transferred to the KIA Tigers, and coach Kim Woo-seok was confirmed to transfer to the Hanwha Eagles. A situation occurred where two first-team coaches and three second-team coaches left at once.

A year ago, Doosan appointed Lee Seung-yeop, special advisor to the KBO governor, as the coach to help lift the team that sank to 9th place. They gave up on renewing the contract with coach Kim Tae-hyung, who led the dynasty, and made an unprecedented appointment by handing over the baton to special adviser Lee Seung-yeop, who had no leadership experience, with a total of 1.8 billion won for three years.

With the appointment of coach Lee, Doosan made every effort to form a coaching staff to help the novice head coach. Coach Lee did not leave the baseball world for five years after retiring in 2017, but since he had no leadership experience, he brought on board a large number of coaches with abundant field experience.

As a result, an ultra-luxurious coach corps was built, including coach Kim Han-soo, who served as Samsung coach, Koji Goto, Yuji Serizawa, Seong-hwan Cho, Jung-bae Park, Su-seong Jeong, and Young-soo Lee. In addition, existing coaches Jeong Jae-hoon, Kim Joo-chan, and Ko Young-min also decided to remain on the team and help Seung-yeop Lee. In the case of Coach Jeong Jae-hoon, he was the one who drew up the sketch of the current Doosan mound during the Australian spring camp.

Coaches Kim Joo-chan and Yoo Jae-shin are both coaches with deep ties to Lotte. Coach Kim Joo-chan played an active role as Lotte's main hitter from 2001 to 2012, his second year, and signed a 5 billion won free agent contract with KIA. Coach Yoo Jae-shin never played for Lotte during his active years, but instead, his father, the late coach Yoo Du-yeol, led Lotte to victory in the 1984 Korean Series and was selected as MVP.

Coach Ko Young-min, a Doosan one-club man, began his career as a leader at KT after his retirement and returned to his former home, Doosan, in 2019, but headed to Lotte to take on a new challenge. Coach Jeong Jae-hoon, who is well-versed in pitcher training, is also at KIA for the first time in his entire career and as a leader. Coach Jeong has been named on the list for the KIA finishing camp held in Okinawa, Japan.

Meanwhile, Doosan, which is starting its Icheon finishing camp on the 30th, plans to fill five positions as soon as possible. A Doosan official said, “We are currently putting the pieces of the coaching staff together. “After careful consideration, we will appoint five new coaches,” he said.
