Some words on appealing to arbitrary values:
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
What I have seen is that many Muslims especially those influenced by social justice warrior attitudes solely appeal to some arbitrary set of values in order to make the argument & case for the truth of Islam rather than the core principles of the religion.
This da'wah is all rooted in the fact that these Muslims have themselves swallowed certain presuppositions/assumptions to be true and thus try arguing the truth of Islam from such frameworks.
I'll provide examples which are quite easily critiqued:
So for example, you'll see them say "Islam means peace!!!" as an attempt to show it's truthfulness against other religions. But if one was to take an objective look, religions like Jainism are way more "peaceful" than Islam. But does that make Jainism true, of-course not.
Or you'll see them say "Islam promotes so much tolerance!!", in order to appeal to the masses, but if one was to take a birds-eye look, then the principles of secular humanism/UN and even religions like Sikhism have a way more tolerant stance to other religions/and issues like apostasy.
Or they'll say, "Islam gave so many rights to women!, but then if you were to objectively assess, the feminist project rooted in the secular liberal paradigm can offer WAY MORE 'rights' than Islam since rights in Islam are restricted to revelation.
As you can see this da'wah is clearly rooted in subconsciously reaffirming certain presuppositions that the mono-culture in general has simply assumed to be true and most just. So for example, the more freedom/tolerance/rights there is, the more just & good it is. This is something diametrically opposed to Islam, because our framework is rooted in submission. Indeed, we also have a degree of tolerance & teachings that promote a peaceful society & we also have certain set of rights for man/woman but this functions within our own framework.
The point is, we also have rulings that go against the very fabric of "tolerance", "freedom", "equality", "peace" as commonly defined by people of today, so it is simply strange to solely appeal to such values to argue for the truth of the religion & make it seem more attractive.
The truth of a religion isn't based upon the minutiae of its laws, rather it's based upon its core tenets, principles & theology and for us, this is tawhīd and risālah and ultimately our framework is rooted in submission.
And Allāh knows best.
