"Strange pitcher" Jack Greinke (40) has reportedly resumed pitching.
According to Arizona Republic's Nick Picoro, Greinke is training at the Arizona Diamondbacks' extended spring training camp.
Picoro said, "This does not mean a contract between Greinke and Aryzo. It appears that the two sides have never discussed a reunion. It just allowed Arizona to work out at Greinke's facility."
Greinke, who played seven seasons after being drafted by the Kansas City Royals as the sixth overall player in 2002, spent two seasons with Kansas City again after playing with the Dodgers and Arizona.
He received attention by winning the AL Cy Young Award in the 2009 season, playing 714 2/3 innings for Arizona in 2016-19, the most thrown by a team other than Kansas City.
Greinke's performance dropped sharply last season. He posted a 5.06 ERA in 14 1/3 innings. He showed a 3.9 percent walk-off ratio, which is an elite level, but his ball speed declined and his strikeout rate decreased.
According to MLBTR on Wednesday, Greinke started throwing again two weeks ago. Greinke said, "My arm is fine right now. I was trying to play golf well for the past two months, and I thought, 'Why do you want to be a professional golfer when you are already a professional baseball player? I will throw a little bit and see how it goes."
MLBTR said Greinke, who lives in Arizona with his family, impressed as he pitched live against four Arizona players who are in injury rehabilitation.
Arizona currently has lost Eduardo Rodriguez and Merrill Kelly. Greinke could be a replacement. It is also possible to return to Kansas City.
Greinke is aiming for the 3,000th strikeout record. If he secures 21 more, he will reach the long-awaited 3,000th strikeout mark. 메이저 토토사이트
