What is hemp and what are its benefits?

Hemp seeds or "hemp" are an important nutritional resource, they are rich in antioxidants, fiber, protein and heart-healthy fats. They have been used for thousands of years in oriental medicine to treat different disorders, likewise, hemp oil is considered a super food since it is believed that it can improve the health of those who consume it.

A fact: Hemp is the non-psychotropic cousin of marijuana, both of which come from the herbaceous species Cannabis Sativa.

Cardiovascular health 
Their contribution of healthy fats (30%), especially omega 3 fatty acids and gamma linoleic acids, make these seeds a powerful anti-inflammatory that promotes cardiovascular health, they also contain arginine, an amino acid that is converted into nitric oxide. This substance causes blood vessels to dilate, which improves blood flow.

A fact: whole hemp flower seeds are a good source of soluble and insoluble fiber that supports blood glucose levels and benefits people with high cholesterol. 

Source of vegetable protein 
about 25% of the calories in these small seeds come from protein of good quality and excellent digestibility, therefore, they are considered one of the best protein sources of vegetable origin.

Hemp seeds are also a great source of vitamin E and minerals, such as iron, phosphorus, zinc, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, and calcium.

A fact: In hemp crops —generally— they do not use pesticides or chemicals for their healthy growth.

seeds are very versatile , they can be sprinkled on fruit, used together with amaranth as a meat breader, added to salads, they can also be added to rice, hot cakes, oats, pancakes, yogurt, granola, or in smoothies. These delicious, nutty-flavored seeds will fit in just about any dish. 

There are also vegan protein powders made from this seed. You can include it with seasonal fruit and a vegetable drink without added sugar to prepare a delicious and healthy shake. 

  1. Pineapple, coconut and hemp smoothie
    Ingredients: 
    200 ml of coconut drink without added sugar
    ½ cup of pineapple
    1 tbsp. of hemp

 

  1. Hot cocoa with hemp
    Ingredients: 

    200 ml of unsweetened vanilla almond drink
    2 tablespoons of cocoa powder without added sugar
    1 tbsp. of hemp
    1 pinch of cinnamon
    Optional a teaspoon of honey or stevia to taste. 

 

  1. Bowl of oatmeal with hemp
    Ingredients:

    200 ml of soy drink with no added sugar
    1/4 cup of rolled oats 
    1 tbsp. of hemp
