It will open in two weeks at the first gaming and entertainment center in Eastern Kentucky, with a $75 million investment that will create about 250 new jobs and generate millions of dollars in tax revenue.
Sandy's Racing and Gaming will open to the public on Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Enthusiastic athletes are expected to line up earlier.
"With world-class game floors, locally served dining options, a variety of entertainment stages and an incredible BetMGM sportsbook lounge, Sandy will be the region's premier entertainment destination," said John Marshall, president of Racing & Gaming at Sandy. "There's nothing else like Sandy and we can't wait for everyone to experience it."
Those over 21 will be able to play nearly 700 slots of the same game, enjoy musical performances at night, and watch sports events live on three theater-sized screens. At the same time, you'll be able to indulge in Big Sandy Burger, Sandy Ale, and Sandy's soon-to-be-famous handmade pie.
Construction on the 75,000-square-foot gaming facility located at 10699 U.S. 60 in Ashland began in April and is led by Kentucky - based d.w. Wilburn construction and tri - state building trade. More than 300 local union members were employed throughout the project, with 90% of all materials and supplies made in the United States. When the doors open, Sandy will hire nearly 250 additional locals.
"We are incredibly proud to be part of the tri-state community and even more proud to support the region with new jobs and new tax revenues," said Larry Lucas, president of Revolution Racing, who leads the project in partnership with the Cherokee Indian Eastern Band and the Kentucky Quarter Horse Racing Association.
Sandy's Racing & Gaming will include Kentucky's first quarter racetrack, equestrian center and gaming facilities. Construction on Sandy Ridge, a racetrack that will be located on 182 acres behind the gaming facility, is scheduled to begin in early 2024, with the first race expected to take place there in 2025.
