They make believable websites that make it impossible for the casual internet user to tell the difference. The next thing that you know, you are already giving your information.
Many are not self-aware
You have to be self-aware if you want to stay away from fraud. Many are willing to give their information because they think that it is harmless. For instance, you might be asked of your pet’s first name only to find out that it can be used to change your password. The next thing you know, they have access to your entire email and they even used your bank account.
Users are inevitably the weakest link
Despite the amount of money spent by organizations and banks on their security, users will remain the weakest link. For whatever reason, there is always the possibility that someone will give more information than he or she should that could lead to problems.
Some scams look innocent
There are phishing scams that don’t look dubious at first glance. It might be a game that says can predict your future or figure out your personality. But in exchange, you give way too much information that it can backfire.
A lot of people don’t use any precaution
Do you have any precautions in case someone is trying to access your account that is not part of your usual device? You need to make it a habit to look at your email and notify the bank if someone is trying to take money that isn’t you. OTP or one-time password that is texted to your phone number is a good way to stop phishing incidences.
If you are going to go online, always remember that you have to protect your information. Your birthday, card details, and even your mother’s middle name should only be known to you and your immediate family members.
