In the past several weeks we have made it our point to make the best of this terrible situation and adapt to the new landscape. I personally am very familiar with shifting landscapes. When I was 16, my college in Azerbaijan was shut down inexplicably and I was left to scramble for other options. My mother had also lost her job and my father had died the year prior. A year after those unfortunate events upended my life, I accepted a full scholarship to a college in the U.S. — a dream of mine since I could remember having a dream.
Today feels a lot like then. This feeling that I might have completely lost the business I have been building for the past 7 years creeps in the background. Besides intermittent panic attacks, there is a small part of me that is excited about the new changes we have made to our business model. We now have a new stunning website — I hired a hard-working man from Pakistan via Fiverr (desperate times call for desperate measures) to build our website’s structure (shout-out Saad Nassem) and a talented local photographer agreed to shoot photos and be paid in gelato (shout-out Oscar Arce). I also indulged in my need to be creative and did some website building myself — a huge need at the moment since I have been mostly working from home watching my kiddos (they are great motivators). The greatest part about the website is Phase 1 — we are doing pick-up as well as curbside pick-up via our very own in-house ordering system!
