Dear Al,
I am writing this while thinking of you.
On the days when you’re busy with your work, I often find myself gazing out the window. The warm breeze and the gentle greenery always make me think about how lovely it would be if we could spend every day together.
It has been a while since the day you found me, saved me, and welcomed me into your home. I’ve never been very good at expressing my gratitude. All I could do was say thank you or make you something to eat. Even though you always say it was not simply an act of kindness, your concern, your care, your gentle touch, and… the way you look at me have always made me feel safe and at ease.
I find myself growing more attached to you with each passing day. More than anything, I’ve become curious about you. I want to know you better—what you enjoy, what you dislike, what makes you smile, and what troubles your heart. Strangely enough, for the first time in what feels like forever, I find myself looking forward to tomorrow because of you.
When I watched over humans from afar, I never imagined I would become attached to someone. Seeing them happy made me happy, and seeing them suffer filled me with sadness. But this feeling… this desire to learn everything I can about you… is something entirely new to me. I still don’t know how to put it into words.
I like seeing you work so hard. It makes me admire your dedication, and I feel proud whenever I see you giving your best. But at the same time, I find myself wishing I could be the one to take care of you, too. I want to make sure you remember to rest, to eat well, and to have someone waiting for you when the day has been long and exhausting. I wonder why... but the thoughts of seeing you exhausted and sick makes my heart sink in a way I can't quite explain.
There are still so many things I don’t know about you. There are also many things I have yet to learn myself. Even so, I hope that, even if forever is an impossibly long time—and I don’t know what will happen to us next—we’ll be able to fill it with memories worth cherishing.
While I’m still here, while I still have reasons to smile, and while I’m still able to do things that can make your days a little brighter, I hope I can become one of the reasons you look forward to tomorrow as well.
I said that I wouldn’t promise you anything, and we agreed to find a way for me to stay on Earth. But I do want to tell you this… we have already made a promise, and I intend to keep it. I will treasure the necklace and the ring you gave me with all my heart.
Thank you for finding me.
Thank you for giving me the chance to walk beside you.
Thank you for accepting me despite everything.
And thank you for allowing me to experience a life I never thought I deserved.
I hope you know how deeply grateful I am for you. I hope we can share many more days together and continue trying new things. I’ll learn how to cook better so I can make meals you’ll truly enjoy. I’ll learn even more so I can help you with anything you need. Don't be so hard so on yourself, you are not alone anymore. And… if you’re willing, I’d like you to tell me more about yourself. I want to know every little thing that makes you who you are. Although neither of us knows what the future holds, I hope we can spend those unknown days together.
I’ll write to you again, to tell you more about things I wish you knew about how I feel in my next letter. Until then, I hope these small words of mine can ease your worries, even if only a little, and reassure you that I’m not going anywhere.
By the way, I’m wearing the smile you gave me.
With all my gratitude,
Sariel
