Properties of the Netherlands Antilles
The Netherlands Antilles is a portion of the Caribbean area known as the Lesser Antilles and includes two island groupings. The Bonaire & Curaçao leeward group on the Venezuelan coast and the Sint Eustatius and Saint Martin windward trio are located close east of Puerto Rico. Saint Martin is separated into the northern portion of Saint Martin and the southern section of Saint Maarten in the Netherlands. apartments for rent
Spain, which was afterwards captured in the 17th century by the Dutch West India Company, initially founded the island and converted it into essential trade and military outlets. Slave trading flourished here before it was abolished in 1863.
Dutch Antilles became an independent country in 1954 but stayed part of the Netherlands - a position known as "status aparte." Aruba, once a part of the Netherlands Antilles, became an independent republic in the Kingdom in 1986.
The Netherlands staged a referendum between June 2000 and 2005 and the Islands had an opportunity to determine their future status. Sint Eustatius elected to stay in the Netherlands whereas Saba and Bonaire decided to stay closer. Sint Maarten and Curaçao followed Aruba's lead and selected a distinct status. After round table meetings, Curaçao and Sint Maarten were given autonomy from 2005 to 2007 while the special municipalities of Saba, Bonaire and Sint Eustatius were set up in the Netherlands.
The Netherlands Antilles will be abolished and each of the five islands will have new places in the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is more improbable that the initial goal date of 10 October 2010. Instead of "10-10-10," many claim "11-11-11" is the date of dissolution.
The citizens are expecting the outcome of the approaching disintegration. Bonaire, Saba and Sint Eustatius, in particular, have substantial issues, including welfare systems not equal in the Netherlands and the changes to the US dollar rather than to the euro from the existing Netherlands Antillean currency.
Despite these worries, the Netherlands Antilles remains focused on its extremely successful tourism-driven economy. Despite the high prices, the selling of property is expensive in the country. A number of high-quality condominiums and resorts have been constructed to meet the needs.
