Hits a home run for the first time

He is a Japanese professional baseball player who earns more than 100 million yen a year this season. The number excludes foreign players. Infielder Sakamoto Hayato (36) is tied for first with 600 million yen. He will earn the highest salary along with Yakult Swallows' monster hitter Murakami Munetaka (24). Kazuma Okamoto (28), the fourth batter who moved from third base to first base, renewed his contract at 420 million yen, and veteran starter Tomoyuki Sugano (35) renewed his contract at 400 million yen. The two players ranked eighth to ninth.

This year, the Yomiuri Giants ranked second in annual salary among 12 teams in both leagues. It was ranked first last year, but traded seats with the Softbank Hawks. The team's overall annual salary is 3,745.7 billion yen, with an average annual salary of 62.43 million yen, which is higher than its recent performance.

The Orix Buffaloes, which swept the Pacific League from 2021 to 2023, earns an average annual salary of 45.38 million yen this year. Hanshin, the winner of the Central League and Japan Series last year, earned 559.5 billion yen. Orix ranks sixth overall, and Hanshin ranks third.

After winning the Central League title for two consecutive years between 2019 and 2020, the team was on the decline. It finished third in 2021 and fourth in 2022-2023. Under the same head coach system, Tatsunori Hara resigned at the end of the season as the team only finished the B-class (4th to 6th out of 6 teams) for the first time in two consecutive years. Head coach Tatsunori Abe took the helm. After winning the Japan Series title in 2012, the team failed to lift the trophy.

Seiji Kobayashi, 35, a catcher of the Yomiuri Giants, is paid 30 million yen a year this year. He signed a contract for a whopping 70 million yen cut from 100 million yen in December last year. As the backup catcher's third player in his team, he played in only 21 games last year.

His batting performance was even lower. He had one hit from eight times at bat in nine times at bat, with a batting average of 125 percent. No matter how much he is a defensive catcher whose overall batting average is in the low 20s, it is a disastrous performance. Even after he became an FA (free agent), he had no choice but to accept a 70 percent cut in his annual salary.

Kobayashi once had one hit in 18 at-bats and a batting average of 56 percent in 2020.

He has 11 years of experience as a college graduate and a member of the society team. He was selected as the first draft pick in 2013 and joined the Yomiuri Giants. He represented Japan at the 2017 WBC (World Baseball Classic). He has lost ground in recent years after serving in the pro baseball league.

On the other hand, Takumi Oshiro (31), the main catcher, recorded his best performance last year. He played in 134 games, recording a batting average of 281-119 hits, 16 homers and 55 RBIs. In his sixth year since joining the team, he had his first triple-digit hit in most games, marking a career high. He renewed his contract at 130 million yen, up 50 million yen from 80 million yen. Oshiro is the winner of the Japanese WBC team in 2023.

Kobayashi said in a media interview after renewing his salary last year, "I am well aware that we cannot do this. I will try to change it so that I can strengthen my body and mind this offseason."

Kobayashi, who started the game as No. 7 catcher at the match against Yakult Swallows in Tokyo on Tuesday, hit his 16th homer in three years. He hit a one-run homer to the left in the top of the seventh inning with his team leading 1-0, with one out. He hit a changeup thrown by Yakult right-hander Miguel Yahoore at the full count. He missed a missed pitch to the center of the strike zone.

This is the first time in three years that the Korean team garnered a 2-1 victory over the Hiroshima Carp on Sept. 12, 2021. Having won its third straight game, the Yomiuri Giants held the second place by a half-game gap against the Hanshin Tigers.

Kobayashi played with young ace Shosei Dogo (24) on the day. It was a powerful blow to Kobayashi, who had shown good pitching until the sixth inning without allowing even a single goal. In an interview after the game, Kobayashi said, "I thought that Kobayashi was throwing well and needed to score additional points somehow. I am glad that I got the highest result."

He started in four games after the game against the Chunichi Dragons on the 6th. Kobayashi was trained alone at the training room at Tokyo Dome last winter

It is said to have been trained.

Oshiro, a main catcher who has been in a slump in batting, was removed from his registration in the first division on the 8th. After recording 20 consecutive hits, he was notified of his move to the second division for the first time in two years.
