The law of South Africa grants two types of visas such as temporary and permanent. The temporary one is called a visa, while the permanent one is called a permit.   • If the individuals are financially independent, they can get access.
  • They have certain qualifications and extraordinary skills.
  • If they are in relation or married to a citizen of South Africa or the holder of permanent residence.
  • Suppose they certify as refugees according to section 27 (c) of the Refugees Act. And in that case, you need to get a certificate from the Refugee standing committee to ensure you remain a refugee for an unlimited time.
  • If they got a permanent job offer in the country.
  • If they certify as a retired individual.
  • Or if they will initiate a business in South Africa.
  • One is eligible for permanent residence if they have the ownership of work visas for the previous five continuous years and a permanent work offer, they gained in South Africa. Five years’ work permit should be validated on the passport. But the intra-personal transfer work visas are not measured in this aspect.
  • The children of citizens or permanent residents who are below the age of 21 can also apply for the permit.
  • One is eligible if one invests in a current business firm in South Africa. The investment amount should be at least R5 million and not less than that.
  • One can qualify based on the receipt of pensions.
  • Suppose you can denote your net worth as equal to R12 million, not less than that. And if you have taken on DHA a fee of R120,000.0 on approval of the application.

Application For Permanent Residence in South Africa

  • Foreigners can apply for permanent residence if they are on a long-term temporary residence visa in South Africa.
  • Long- and short-term visa holders are not eligible to apply for PR.
  • Married or spouse-based visa holders can apply for a permanent residence permit.
  • When applying, the applicant must own a work visa as per section 26 (a) of the Immigration Act.
  • The applicant must own a critical skills work visa according to section 27 (b) while making the application for PR. Work experience for a certain period is not required for this particular aspect.
  • Studying in the country does not make an individual eligible for a South Africa Permanent Residence Permit. Those who graduate in South Africa in the field of critical skills are accountable for applying for PR as per 27 (b) of the Immigration Act.
  • If an individual's birth is registered in the department of home affairs, they can apply for permanent residence at 18.
