Cristiano Ronaldo to Barcelona ‘discussed’ in Jorge Mendes talks as four clubs circle

Barcelona are reportedly considering a shock move for Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo following news that club president Joan Laporta met up with Jorge Mendes earlier this week Cristiano Ronaldo could be being lined up for a bonkers move to Barcelona with the 37-year-old inching closer to an Old Trafford exit. Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes has been offering the Portugal international around like slices of cake at a birthday party and reportedly sat down with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday to discuss, among other things, a potential switch. According to Spanish outlet AS, the Catalan giants considered an approach for Ronaldo last summer when he left Juventus, but decided against it due to their delicate financial situation. But now, with their accounts looking a little healthier, the move could be back on the cards. Ronaldo rocked Manchester United last week after handing in a transfer request, less than a year into his supposedly glorious second-coming. It's understood the superstar forward wants to spend the final few years of his career playing at the highest level, and with United missing out on the Champions League last season, he no longer feels that Old Trafford is the place to do that. Chelsea are one of four other teams monitoring the situation closely, but while Blues boss Thomas Tuchel is said to be an 'admirer' of Ronaldo's, he's unconvinced the five-time Ballon d'Or winner would suit his system. https://lu.ma/z41ulf9r

Bayern Munich are also considering an approach - especially with Robert Lewandowski pushing for a move to Barcelona - and while the German champions would prefer to keep the Pole in their ranks, Ronaldo represents a decent back-up plan. Other clubs interested are Roma and Napoli, though with the former not playing in the Champions League next season, a move to the Italian capital looks unlikely. Should Ronaldo sign for Barcelona he would risk tarnishing the superhero legacy he built for himself at rivals Real Madrid - though considering how close he came to joining Manchester City last summer, chances are it won't bother him much. He scored a whopping 450 goals during his nine-year stint at the Bernabeu, with 20 of those coming against potential future employers Barcelona.
