When you find it difficult to make an important decision to set a life goal for yourself, you can consult a life coach. Many people think that life coaches are similar to a therapist; however, they are quite different because they do not focus on personal history. A life coach helps people to find the solution to a problem and move forward without figuring out the core of the problem. There are many other aspects of a life coach that differ from a therapist. One of the biggest differences is that a therapist works with people who have clinical issues like anxiety, depression, trauma, while a life coach works with people who hope to develop their potentials.
Many people prefer to see a life coach therapist online rather than personally because it is affordable and convenient. A life coach also enjoys working with clients online because it enables them to deal with people all over the country. When they work with people, online, the sessions take place over the phone or via an encrypted video chat software to assure the comfort and privacy of the client.
The efforts of coaching fall into three groupings that can overlap. Participants can work in specific areas like negotiation, sales, or presentation skills. Coaches discuss performance skills through goal-setting, accountability and monitoring. Progressive skills aim intra-personal and interpersonal difficulties experienced by coaches themselves.
People can choose between three approaches to coaching. Loesch and colleagues (2016) investigated the efficiency of these in a randomized controlled study. They wanted to know if any, or all, of the setups, could reduce procrastination. The researchers divided the 84 participants into three groups:
- Individual coaching
- Self-coaching
- Group training
They found that individual coaching and group training worked better and reduced procrastination. People in the individual coaching group got greater satisfaction and goal accomplishment. Group training positively influenced relevant information acquisition.
The self-coaching group completed exercises independently. People of this group faced difficulty attaining complex goals. The researchers determined that these members needed coaching support.
The leadership style of life coach therapists also influenced these participants. They got more independent with support and motivation. Coaches use transactional and transformational approaches in individual situations.
The focus of transformational coaching helped people to have a different perspective. The focus of transactional coaching is on strategy and results. A transactional approach does not influence clients in the same way that a transformational style does.
