Are The Private Universities the Future of Education?

Higher Education is increasingly becoming exceedingly competitive, not just at an admissions level but also for placements. More and more private colleges are giving their long-standing private counterparts a run for their money. In this scenario, one cannot help but wonder if private colleges are the future. Several factors will help us analyze the actual situation.

Infrastructure:

It is unsurprising to note that most public universities seem to fare poorly when it comes to infrastructure. With poor lab facilities with insufficient instruments, many students have complaints. Beyond that, the buildings are, in many cases, old and ill-maintained. Available hostel facilities have also been criticized for not being renovated for years. The infrastructure of extracurricular activity is abysmal, though most students form clubs and societies to facilitate their passions.

On the other hand, private universities have better funding and have been known to have better infrastructure. But the facilities they offer for extracurricular activities are contingent on the location. For example, a private top university in Chhattisgarh will offer a much more extensive range of options in this regard, as compared to a public university in Chhattisgarh.

Tuition Costs:

The respective state or central government pays for most of the operations of public colleges. As a result, the students do not bear the burden of operating costs of the university. This helps keep the fees a lot lower than private universities.

In private universities, students pay a lot more not just for the education but also for hostel facilities.

Faculty:

The professors in public universities are recruited after very stringent screening processes with multiple exams. This results in the best of scholars being employed in public colleges.

Private Universities have their own recruiting processes. Though UGC has a baseline requirement that needs to be adhered to, the rest of the process varies with universities. Most private colleges of repute have stricter screening processes than one with lesser goodwill. For example, of the private ones, the UGC approved university in Chhattisgarh will have a much more rigorous interview process than a new one without much reputation to uphold.

Number of Courses offered:

Given that most public universities have a more significant number of students, they can afford to provide a diverse choice of courses and programs. While private universities might not have the same number of courses, they tend to offer very industry-relevant elective lists. This focus on specific curriculum requirements tailored to the industry is often at par with international education institutes. This helps the students build a better portfolio. They also have unique counseling systems which help the students understand their inclinations.

Campus Life and Placements:

Campus life is contingent on many factors, and there is no conclusion drawn based on the nature of the university. Both public and private universities mostly have fun campus lives.

Placements are once again highly contingent on the college and not the type of it. A government college graduate is more likely to have a job at a better company. Private colleges, however, focus on getting more people placed. A college education can help a person achieve a lot in life. It is essential to consider all options before deciding. In that way, we do not make a choice that we end up regretting.
