Xaos Nightheart Backstory

A mother’s acceptance, it is a powerful motivator. And no one has ever known that better than Xaos Nightheart. For as long as he could remember, he had been alone. Growing up in forests outside the kingdom of Vale. Having to fend for himself from a young age against bandits, animals, and Grimm who were particularly attracted to him. He would occasionally travel inwards into the kingdom, trying to steal some food or supplies for him to take back to his little cabin. It was a lot safer taking from the odd human here or there than trying his hand with Grimm around. It was one of these trips that led him to his human brother, Rayos Nightheart. A huntsman who immediately was smart enough to notice their connection. After a brief talk he suggested Xaos use the skills he obviously has to become like him.

And so just a few years later when he was eighteen, Xaos joined Beacon academy. The book stuff he was god awful at, but when it came to combat he was able to excel. His years of fighting off Grimm clear to see. After an impressive performance, he was assigned to team TTRX alongside the fun loving tiger faunus Takun Yukinda, the stoic leader Trinity Darkwood, and the terribly antagonistic spoiled brat that was Ryun Nakamura. This was supposed to be his rather dysfunctional team over the coming few years.

His fate changed forever when a chance encounter with Cinder Fall ruined everything. She gave him promises, promises that she had no way of keeping. Promises that in the end weren’t worth it. Promises about answers and family, but sadly her silver tongue had tricked him. And so he would work with her in secret to bring about Beacon’s fall. The next few months were… stressful. Having to help destroy the life he had finally forged for himself. But the promise of finally seeing his real mother once this was all over, it made everything worth it to him. It pushed him, even when rival Ryun was growing suspicious of him. Xaos couldn’t even enjoy the dance, an event which allowed everyone a moment of peace.

All of this came to a head during the Vytal Festival. Seeing Penny be horribly dismantled was awful but… She was a machine. This wasn’t too bad, right? But then, he helped get the Grimm into the city. Being half Grimm himself, his surplus of negativity made great bait. In the end, he was the only member of his team to survive, Ryun having to be killed by Xaos himself. A fight in which was the first time Xaos had shown his ability to tap into his Grimm powers, his skin turning white and cold as a corpse and red veins covering him. His eyes dark with red pupils. Just like a certain witch, but that power was overwhelming, not something he wanted to tap into often. What horrified him most though was seeing the fight between Pyrrha and Cinder.  It was the first moment he doubted himself, he had always hated Ryun so his battle with him created no doubts but this? He saw a hero, fighting to the very end for what she thought was right, protecting the people and a villain who turned her to dust.

Still, he stood with Cinder, he had come this far he couldn’t back off now. He was so close to his answers. He was brought to the domain of Salem. An immortal witch who he had the displeasure of calling a mother. Finally, his origins were explained to him. Human DNA mixed with the black tar that all Grimm were born from. He was not a human, not fully. This man was part Grimm. How ironic, a huntsman who is a creature of Grimm. The events of the fourth Volume see him slowly but surely in fear and filled with regret. Ultimately concluding with him leaving Salem because this wasn’t where he belonged. He only knew one thing, he needed to right his wrongs. To fix the world that he had broken, and to save the people he had doomed. That was his destiny.

He’s been a fugitive on the run trying to find a way to stop the witch ever since.
