Origin:
Merengue originated in the Dominican Republic. The most common one is that of the slaves that were chained together and had to proceed by dragging a foot at one time. Merengue as both beat songs and since the footwork is quite much like walking, it's a really easy dance to master.
Music:
Merengue is played in 2/4. The double sided drum is played on one side with a pole with a formidable syncopation to mark the beats. Saxophones and guitars can also be rather popular tools found in the music.
Dance:
Merengue footwork is quite simple to know as it's a simple two conquer motion ("left, right") together with the body weight being moved between your thighs. The upper body stays fairly straight whilst the hips move with the body weight change. The Merengue framework is much smaller (closer) in comparison to Salsa. Having said that, Merengue is frequently led with a single (right) hand over the rear. But in receptive hold, arms in many cases are completely extended out in the place of keeping a closer l shaped frame.
