Improved Storage Allocation in SharePoint Online

Improved Storage Allocation in SharePoint Online.jpg

As more and more organisations are investing in technology to encourage employees to do their best, digital transformation is also bringing extreme growth across Microsoft 365 and SharePoint. In 2018, more than 3.5 lacs organisations were using SharePoint, which has now reached to around five lacs.

Every business whether small or large wants to leverage the benefit of SharePoint by storing more content into it, as it provides extensive features like team collaboration and enterprise content management system over on-premises servers, file shares, and 3rd party cloud offerings.

In April 2018, Microsoft announced a 20x increase in the SharePoint Online per user license storage allocation, which means the total storage allocation per user is now 1 TB plus 10 GB. But, it is not included with the SharePoint Online kiosk plan, such as Office 365 F1 and Microsoft 365 F1.

So, individuals using any Office 365 services that include SharePoint for content services like Microsoft Teams and Office 365 Groups, can benefit from this substantial storage increase. Below is a scenario of increased storage allocation:

So, if you opt for SharePoint Online now, you will see the increased storage in your SharePoint Inline admin centre. That way, you don’t have to pay for additional storage for your SharePoint Online subscription.

Although if you are willing to get some additional storage for your SharePoint, you can always purchase it within the SharePoint Online admin centre on a per-gigabyte, per-month basis.

With this additional storage allocation, large enterprises will benefit the most as they have more data and content to store as compared to small businesses. But, many large organisations are still relying on on-premises servers for managing their critical documents, which is a risky task because data on on-premises is often prone to corruption. Thus, it is recommended to move your data to SharePoint Online or Office 365.

Wrap Up

The additional storage allocation definitely makes it worth for the users to move to SharePoint Online. So, if you haven’t made a move yet, then it’s time to migrate the data. However, if you’re confused about migrating your organisation’s data, then you can take help from Server Consultancy.
