Best Study Matter for AIIMS and NEET on Extramarks Website

Students will have to appear in the National Eligibility Cum Entry Test (NEET) from 2020 to obtain MBBS from one of the AIIMS. Union Health Minister Dr.Harsh Vardhan, on 4 October, made a historic announcement that NEET will be the only entrance examination for admission to MBBS courses that will eliminate the separate entrance examinations conducted by NEET and AIIMS and JIPMER, respectively. With AIIMS MBBS gone, students seeking admission to the MBBS programs offered by AIIMS will have to align their strategies with NEET.

While the effort certainly decreases as students would only need to prepare for one entrance examination, the competition has increased. The inclusion of NEET and AIIMS and JIPMER in the NEET exam will also have a bearing on the marks cut off. Obviously, the test pattern also changes. AIIMS MBBS was a computer-based test, while NEET remained a pen-based test.

Based on previous year's exam patterns, it can be assumed that the NEET UG 2020 will be a 3-hour OMR-based exam. The question paper, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, contains three sections. Biology has two sub-sections, Zoology and Botany. The NEET-UG 2020 Question Paper will contain a total of 180 questions. Physics and Chemistry will have 45 questions each. The biology section will have 90 questions-45 Zoology questions and 45 Botany questions.

The NEET 2020 pattern is very different from the NEET and AIIMS MBBS exam pattern.

AIIMS MBBS 2019 was performed in computer-based mode. The duration of the examination was three hours and thirty minutes. There were a total of five sections in the question paper. Sections of Physics, Chemistry,

and Biology had 60 questions each. The biology section had questions about both botany and zoology. Apart from these sections, there was a section on General Knowledge and a section on Aptitude and Logical Thinking. These two sections had 10 questions each.

The advantage that NEET has over NEET AIIMS MBBS is that NEET does not have additional sections on general knowledge and logical thinking. However, the number of questions in the biology section is higher in NEET than in the AIIMS MBBS exam.
