Q. Your observation about the difficulty level of 2015 mains vs previous papers. And what precautions/rectifications are necessary in the future strategy for given optional subject?
This year the paper was relatively easy compared to shockingly new topics asked in 2013 and 2014. Most questions were straight-forward eg- “Ordinance-making power of the Executive needs to be suitably restrained.” Examine it critically. But still UPSC’s love for Public Admin butchering hasn’t subsided.Lot of new terms asked like precariat charter, Comparative performance measurement, Ferrel heady’s stages of development were asked.
Practice Previous year question papers. Have a group of friends to discuss various questions and perspectives .Join a test series or at least look at their question papers and make an answer framework on questions.
On the new syllabus that is doing the rounds, I would suggest don’t pay much heed to it. If you see the questions every time they are entirely new. For eg in they asked post-structuralism in 2014 when we prepared that they asked Comparative performance measurement in 2015. So don’t play mouse-cat game .(“UPSC aapke speech ,aap UPSC ke peeche .Too much fun “).
Just strengthen your core. Revise it again and again and your command should be such that at all times you remember the keywords related to a topic.
