The importance of the types of the thread gauges

Introduction:
 
Every industrial tool requires checking for its accuracy and utility. You can find different kinds of checking tools for different kinds of instruments. We shall take the simplest of instruments such as the screws and the nuts. The screws have threads on the outside portion whereas the nuts have the threading on the inner parts. The simplest forms of the thread gauges are the Go-No Go kind of gauges. As the name suggests, this is a very simple device. The thread ring gauge has utility to measure the tolerance levels of the instrument having threads on the outer side. This could be screws, pipes, and rods as well depending on the usage. The thread ring gauge is a kind of a metallic ring through which you have to pass the screw or the rod. The screw should pass through the ‘Go type’ thread ring gauge easily.  At the same time, it should not pass through the No-Go type. This is the measure of its tolerance. The thread plug gauges
 
This was as far as the thread ring gauges are concerned. Many tools could have the threads inside them. The thread ring gauges would be if no use under such circumstances. You have to make use of the thread plug gauges to determine the accuracy levels and tolerance of the tools. Such implements could contain the nuts etc. These thread plugs would have a similar kind of the Go and the No Go kind of tools. The Thread plug gauges of the Go type should easily go into the nuts without difficulty. At the same time, the No Go end should not be able to enter the same implements. Under such circumstances, the tools have a good tolerance level and are fit for use.

The beauty of these thread gauges is that it does not require any expert to handle these implements. Any technician with a basic knowledge of how these tools work would be able to operate the thread gauges.

There are different kinds of the thread gauges such as the ‘Metric thread gauges, the UN thread gauges, the ACME thread gauges, and the Trapezoidal thread gauges’. Each of these tools has their individual utility.

Every manufacturing or production industry would have utility for the basic implements such as screws and the nuts. An important point to note about the thread gauges is that they are not precision tools of any kind. They can measure the tolerance levels. You have to use the advanced versions of the thread gauges such as the NPTF gauges etc for determining the high levels of accuracy. The micrometer screw gauge can also measure the accuracy levels.
