Gainesville - 5G Cell Towers

The City of Gainesville is responding to new State law effective July 1, 2017 (HB 687) that allows corporations to override local authority on the installation of "small-cell" microwave systems on poles and sites inside the City rights-of-way, including near homes on certain neighborhood streets.

Florida, HB 687 – Advanced Wireless Infrastructure Deployment Act (small cells) was approved into law on Friday, June 23, by Gov. Scott, it is effective 7/1/17. The bill (HB 687) can be found at this link:

The federal government, FCC and now the State of Florida has determined that the future of smart phones, the internet and the "Internet of Things" (IoT) will require national deployment of millions of small-cell sites that are 5G compatible with frequencies expected to initially include 28GHz, 37GHz, 39GHz for deployment as early as next year (2018, Verizon). Compare these frequencies to a shielded microwave oven which is typically 2.45 GHz.

(Gary Resnick) Mayor: Small Cell 'Pizza Boxes' Are More Like Fridges

"...Gary Resnick, mayor of Wilton Manors, Fla., and the former chair of the FCC’s Intergovernmental Advisory Committee under Democratic Chair Tom Wheeler, took issue with that as he argued against allowing the FCC to preempt local and state regs in the interest of more rapidly deploying that and other broadband infrastructure.

Proposed 5G Microwave Radiation Spectrum

Introduction to 5G and the "Internet of Things" (IoT).

7/14/2016: FCC Unanimously Opens Nearly 11 GHz of Spectrum for 5G
The newly freed spectrum includes 3.85 GHz of licensed spectrum from 27.5-28.35 GHz and 37-40 GHz as well as 7 GHz of unlicensed spectrum from 64-71 GHz.

Verizon, which was among the major carriers advocating for open spectrum in the 28 GHz, 37 GHz and 39 GHz bands ahead of its planned commercial 5G launch next year (2018), praised the decision as one that will “help ensure that the U.S. maintains its leadership position in wireless communications.”

Growing Awareness of Smart Phone and Microwave Health Issues

GLIOMA TUMORS: A glioma is a type of tumor that starts in the brain or spine. Gliomas make up about 30% of all brain and central nervous system tumors and 80% of all malignant brain tumors.

In 2012,  a Florida attorney -  Jimmy Gonzalez - who later died in 2014 following two surgeries and 3 years of chemotherapy for Glioma brain cancer - delivered compelling testimony at Pembroke Pines commission meeting confirming cell phone radiation caused his brain cancer.

The Pembroke Pines City Commission responded to Jimmy Gonzalez's testimony with a resolution to promote cell phone safety.
