Pets And E-Cigars

Electronic cigars (e-cigars) are now commonly used by many people who would like to stop smoking or cut back on tobacco. Its popularity has also lead to increased exposure of animals to its components.  E-cigars contain high concentrations of nicotine, which is highly toxic to dogs and cats. In fact, they often contain more concentrated levels of nicotine compared to traditional tobacco products. In addition to nicotine, e-cigars also contain flavoring agents which can make them more enticing to pets.

The most common symptom of nicotine poisoning in cats and dogs is vomiting. There may also be drooling, diarrhea, and increase in heart rate. Higher doses of nicotine can cause tremors and seizures, along with muscular weakness and death as a result of heart arrhythmias and weakness of the respiratory muscle.

Nicotine in e-cigars is in liquid form, and it can rapidly be absorbed through the skin or mucous membranes of the mouth. This means more active nicotine that is available in the body. Click here to learn more.
