There could be multiple reasons behind slow speed and performance related issues on your system that includes a lot of data on your drive, malware issues, hardware issues etc.  You may confront a situation when your system keeps on updating with a message “Your startup disk is almost full”. This situation happens due to a lot of data on your hard drive in the form of files and apps.

  1. Clean hard drive:  Using hard drive to its maximum capacity eventually creates performance issues. One major reason behind this is we keep on downloading multiple apps irrespective of the times we use them! In the similar fashion, we keep on saving various data files like image files, video & audio files, documents and other data on our system drive. All this habit eventually slows down the system and it makes the speed of the system down. Similarly, duplicate files also create chaos on the hard drive. It is better idea to delete duplicate files using duplicate file finder and duplicate photo finder tools.
  2. Update operating system: The Old operating system works according to their limitations. The latest version of Mac, OS X El Capitan works faster and smoother than its predecessor. To update to the new version head to Mac App Store and search for “OS X El Capitan” install it and feel the difference.
  3. Clean Startup process: This is one of the major reasons why system performs slowly. When a lot of apps and programs run at the time of startup of the system it significantly affects the speed of the system. To smoothen startup process, remove unnecessary apps and programs from running at the time of startup. To do so, head to System Preference > Users & Groups and then click on your username. Next, click on the Login Items and click on the name of an application you don’t want to launch during startup. Click on the “-“ symbol to remove the item from the list of startup items.
  4. Close programs running in the background: Many programs and apps running in the background of the system also cause the slow speed of the system. Activity Monitor displays the processes which are using up your system resources. To close programs running in background go to Applications > Utilities Folder > Activity Monitor > Apps. Select the app that you don’t want to run in background by clicking on the app in the list. Then click on the “x” icon to close the process.
  5. Change hardware: If you have tried all above options to boost up the speed of the Mac and you didn’t get the expected results then this is the time to restructure your machine. It may cost you little bit but ultimately you will get the great speed and performance of the system. Check for different options available in the market.
