Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio: The ‘California Dial’ Watch

Love them or hate them, one thing that you can’t do with Panerai is pay no attention to them. Panerai has once more made marks at Watches & Wonders 2015 with their newest special edition watches. I’m certainly referring to the new Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio DLC PAM629 California dial watch, and also its altered sister, the PAM617.

The PAM629 uses Panerai’s strained and verified Luminor 1950 case which is 47mm wide. This turns the Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio DLC PAM629 into a larger watch. Though it may be large, the lugs do bend quite noticeably. So it’s not scratchy to wear even if you have small wrists. And because it is condensed in titanium, the Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio DLC PAM629 also feels extraordinarily light. The pure weight of this watch jumbles with your mind. You are guessing it’s a heavy piece, and yet when you pick it up and put it on, it feels like a quite smaller watch. The titanium covering helps make the case tougher to scratches and wear. The case is structured in the classic Panerai quality, which is to say is really good. The outlines are sharp and the smooth matte finish seems to almost suck up light. This makes the gold hands shine in the lights even more sharply. The stock Ponte Vecchio calf strap also yells quality, though I think some users would be annoyed that it is reduced down to only 22mm. I for myself would prefer a smooth 26mm belt on my 47mm Luminor 1950 watch.

The Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days Titanio DLC PAM629 has a price tag of $11,700. And this is quite a bit of more cash when you recall that the Panerai Luminor 1950 3 Days (PAM372) is estimated at around $9,100. But now, consider this- you get a titanium case with DLC surface as well as an exclusive dial to match. I would even say that as the PAM 629 is the first Luminor to contain a California dial, it’s a little piece of the company history. And the fact that it is bounded to only 300 pieces makes it a bit more exclusive then your regular casual watches.
