Hiking at Hadar Looking for Lucy, an Early Hominid Skeleton
Have you ever heard of the fossilized remains of the hominid, named Dinknesh (in Amharic, meaning "thou art wonderful", nicknamed "Lucy" by Europeans). It is one of the oldest known ancestors of Homo sapiens, technically known as Australopithecus Afarensis, discovered in Hadar Afar area of Ethiopia in 1974. The fossil has been determined to be 3.8 million years. Supplemented by many other discoveries, it gained Ethiopia the nomenclature of "cradle of the human race".
