CU Boulder
CU Boulder Reviews
Large public school founded in 1876 & known for its scenic campus & law program.
College Sophomore at CU Boulder
Overall Experience: I love my classes and teachers, I just wish it wasn't so expensive because i have to commute nearly 3 hours round trip a day to stay where I love to be
Overall Experience: Gen classes are too large. CU-Boulder offers a variety of class choices is wide but could be more interesting. Professors are generally very good teachers.
Overall Experience: Careers in Anthropology aren't abundant, but I think a BA from CU is relatively valuable.
Health & Safety: I have never felt unsafe but heard multiple stories about women I know being hassled or even assaulted.
College Senior at CU Boulder
Campus Housing: I lived in WilVil and ended up glad I wasn't put anywhere else. It's far from classes and a nice community.
Greek Life: You don't need to join Greek life to make friends. In fact, you will probably feel more fulfilled by letting your uniqueness shine and not subscribing to a lifestyle of sameness.
Athletics: Athletics overshadows many important aspects of student life like music or natural sciences
College Senior at CU Boulder
Overall Experience: Boulder is an amazing place to live. CU has many resources but is huge and it took a few years to figure out where I fit.
Overall Experience: CU-Boulder has a great name behind it and many of our alumni have accomplished amazing things in history.
Health & Safety: Many good things on campus to help prevent these issues and all freshman are educated on this during orientation.
Greek Life: Great way to meet people in a community at a very large school.
Overall Experience: Professors really care about the students and do so much to help. Everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is amazing! Great place to grow and learn for the best four years of your life.
Greek Life: Greek life is fun and interesting and it is possible to participate without joining, but sometimes as a non-member, it seems exclusive. The cost of being a member is the biggest reason for my lack of participation, and yet I have found plenty of other reasons not to join. There have been attempts to reconcile the rape culture in fraternities, but it is hard to see the progress when frat parties allow all girls entry but exclude male individuals without an invite and some fraternity members do not take school seriously, they are there to join greek life and hook up with girls. This may not be unique to CU but it is what I see.
Athletics: School spirit is phenomenal for all varsity and club sports, but the football team is nothing special. We are proud to have snow sports and running sports for example. It is a great environment for athletes to excel, with the mountains and the cool, fresh mountain air all around. The CU rec center is amazing.
Overall Experience: I've loved all of my classes and professors except one or two but it does not have a strong impact on my opinion of the school. Overall, I have had a great experience so far.
Overall Experience: I think the number and variety of courses offered is wonderful. I wanted to take a class on Greek mythology, and they have it! It's so cool! I also love their system of doing recitation classes to go along with lectures to help students review what was taught in the large lecture hall in a smaller sized classroom. Academic advisors are very helpful in guiding you to what classes you should take or how many credits is too much in one semester. The RAP is really great too! It stands for Residential Academic Programs. In certain residence halls, they require students to take a class within that hall which benefits the students a lot because the classroom is right there and easy to access and they also get to know classmates/roommates better too!
Health & Safety: I feel very safe on the Boulder campus, as well as the areas right outside of it too. I think the school and police departments around the community do their absolute best to keep students, staff, and family as well, as safe as possible.
Campus Housing: Originally I was placed in Darley North hall which is in William's Village, which is kind of off campus. I was a bit upset about this at first because it wasn't any of my top choices on the housing application. Then, finally once I was okay with my assignment, I got switched to Baker RAP which was great and all but definitely a sudden change. I think the dorm rooms are very spacious and the bathrooms in the halls are very nice as well.
Greek Life: I don't know much about Greek life yet but I am planning on rushing and joining a sorority. I will say that it is definitely harder for girls than guys because sororities are generally a lot stricter. I am very excited and I really want to join either the Pi Phi house or Kappa house!
Athletics: I really love going to football games and watching Ralphi run before at the home games is just very exciting! It gets the whole crowd pumped up. I also enjoy watching other sports as well on campus, especially the club hockey team. I think it's really cool that they have a team like that. I do wish, however, that CU had a varsity baseball team because that is my favorite sport to watch.
Overall Experience: Although I am only a freshman at CU starting in the fall, I have already had some great experiences at the school! I think my favorite person on this campus is my academic advisor because she's already helped me so much in person and online. I love the school itself and the community around it. I can't wait to be a part of the Buff family, it's going to awesome!
