What is SnagIt?

A screenshot program which is used to capture video displays and audio outputs is called SnagIt. It is a premier application for all your Screen Capturing needs. You can Edit and enhance the captured image using SnagIt. Using SnagIt the outputs can also be captured as Image or Text or Video. SnagIt will add more sense to the presentations. SnagIt replaces the native print screen function with additional features.

Originally it is designed for the Microsoft Windows operating systems, but the recent versions have also been available for Mac OS with fewer features. Newer versions allow batch capture of embedded items such as links, pictures, and multimedia. SnagIt can also follow links in web pages, capturing the specified data from the linked pages.

Features of Snag IT:

• A quick toolbar of SnagIt can increase capture speed by either using the last capture method applied, or by allowing the method to be quickly changed through an option menu.
• It has a preview window which shows a zoomed thumbnail of whatever the cursor is hovering over, and a webpage catalog maker.
• The preview window can gather all screen captures quickly, and create a webpage.
• SnagIt supports different selection formats, which are, Full Screen, Copy to Clipboard, and Web page as a PDF with links, Copy text to clipboard, Free hand, and Menu with time delay.
• The capture tool has a batch converter which allows alteration of a large numbers of files at once.
• SnagIt can automatically move screenshots to the Edit section once captured, where they can be resized, annotated, or special effects can be added.

There are five different capture modes in SnagIt:

Image Capture – SnagIt captures an image of your screen or any portion of it. You can capture images of any software application, games, image from scanners, or anything else you see on your computer screen. Once captured, you can send the image to many outputs including a graphic file, the printer, e-mail, or even a web server.

Text Capture – SnagIt captures the text you see on the screen as editable, ASCII text. SnagIt can even save the text in tab delimited format so that it can be easily imported into spreadsheets or database applications for sorting and other manipulation.

Video Capture – SnagIt records any on – screen activity on your Windows desktop. Capture all your mouse movements and application action and save the video as an industry – standard AVI file. You can also use SnagIt to create time – lapse video of desktop activity over a period of time.

Web Capture – With Web Capture, you can simultaneously capture all the .png, .jpg and .gif images from a Website. All you need to do is type in the Website address. You can then choose the Web page link depth, which is the number of levels of directories from the root Web address to be included in the search.

Printer Capture – SnagIt captures anything you would normally send to a printer and spools it to an image file instead. You do this by printing to the SnagIt virtual printer from any Windows application. Printer Capture settings are associated from the Tools > SnagIt Printer Capture Settings inside SnagIt.
