5 Common Washing Machine Problems and Solutions

A washing machine is one of the most important home appliances that we have in our houses and one that we often take for granted most of the time until something happens to the unit. And this is true of most things we only begin to appreciate their immense value to our lives the moment something happens to it or it is gone. Therefore as an owner of a washing machine you need to have some basic troubleshooting experience which will come in handy in such an event.

They say that a problem identified is a problem half solved and we are going to have a look at some of these problems and the accompanying solutions to expect from a washing machine repairs shop;

Power – A washing machine is an electrical appliance and as such it is incumbent upon you to make sure that it is connected to the power source using the correct plugs and that the power is turned on for it to function at all.

But what happens when you have the power turned on but nothing is happening? Well, in that case the most likely problem is with the circuit breaker, lid switch or fuse box.

Spin – In this case you have your machine turned on and all indications are that there is power getting into the machine but instead of spinning the machine is static. In this case close the lid properly as most machines won’t run with the lid open. If that does not solve it then there could be a problem with the belt responsible for the agitation (spinning).

Drainage- The whole idea of a washing machine is to automate the entire process from washing to draining and drying of clothes all in one cycle. If the drainage is not working the first step is to check the drainage hose for any kinks that are preventing water movement if so unwork them and unclog the hose. Ensure that the washer drain hose is always above the water level in the tub.

Also this being a common problem if you check the above and the problem still persists then do make a point of checking that there is no back siphoning, which is the case when water that is meant to drain out is instead sucked back into the system. If the problem still persists after doing all these checks make a point of getting help from the washing machine repairs guys.

Cycle – It might be the case that your washing machine is fully powered and that Ithas spin but you notice that quite contrary to your expectations it fails to complete the washing cycle. This can be quite baffling but it simply means that your timer has gone rogue or has stalled altogether.

Leaks– Leakage is another common problem that will most likely afflict your washing machine after all it is a container which contains water and other fluids. If it only leaks during a spin-cycle then it is probably caused by a leaky drain hose. The best advice is to always have the numbers of the washing machine repairs guys on standby.
