US prices are incomprehensible because they add some arbitrary amount on top of the original price in taxes. For example, here are apparently identical shoes in London and in NYC:

First, the Americans are dodgy about the discount. The original UK price is already $80, but the US shop pretends it is discounted from $110. Secondly, it is unclear if this price includes the tax I mentioned or not, whereas the UK has no such shenan1gans - you pay what it says. Thirdly, the selection of colors is poorer. Generally, even NYC has a poorer selection of good-looking but decently priced clothes.

Then restaurant food. Say, I like Ethiopian. In Manhattan, the raw typical price of a normal Ethiopian dish is about 15-17 USD. For example: https://awashny.com/menu/food-and-alcohol-free-beverages/#beverages-cold-drinks-24 In London, the price is closer to 12 USD: http://hararrestaurant.co.uk/yourmenu/ However, don't forget that in the US, adding the tax and the giant tip would push it over 20 USD, while in the UK you only add 10% for the tip, so it will be more like 13-14 USD. The difference in the price of alcohol is also stark. I had to pay something like 8 USD for honey wine which costs more like 4 USD in some European capitals. But at least the US has it now. Canada doesn't.

Shop food is a bit hard to discuss because the quality is different, but it also suffers from the same taxes. This is getting bloated though.
