Death of commercialism!

"A short film about killing" in its title, i.e. in four words, contains a rather precise summary of the story. At the beginning, when the inscription with the title of the movie appears, we see a cat hung on the gate by the kids.

It depicts the evil that is everywhere in this film. There is also a dead rat lying in a puddle. At this point, it can be seen that this is a reflection of the later content of the film.

A dead rat like a murdered taxi driver, hanged by a cat like a condemned killer. An extremely intriguing treatment. It was only a few dozen of the initial seconds, this scenario was omitted in the "Decalogue, Five". There is also a mention of the death of Jacek's sister (Mirosław Baka). And of course, we have the murder of a taxi driver (Jan Tesarz) made by Jacek and the execution of a punishment on a criminal - both scenes very shocking, very carefully refined and very strong! The case motif is of great importance. First of all, we have our sister's death in an unfortunate accident. She was the only close person for Jacek, and her worn-out photo was like a relic. Secondly - the fate of Jacek connected with this event, who after the tragedy "escaped" from the village to Warsaw.

Third - the fate of the taxi driver. He does not like uncomfortable passengers - he leaves before a drunk passenger to stop straight for Jack - his executioner. In David Lynch's "Lost Highway", one of the commissioners said: "You know what I think, that cases are never cases." The motivations of the murderer are puzzling.

Why did he kill? How much of his guilt and how much of the world around him? Is the motive motivation sufficient explanation? Or was he more willing to repay evil for the evil that touched him? Each case is different, can not be generalized and measured by one measure of individual cases. The symbolic dimension is picked up by a question from the chairman of the commission (Zbigniew Zapasiewicz) on the bar exam - what is the significance of the preventive function in criminal law (which is, inter alia, the death penalty). An aspiring attorney (Krzysztof Globisz) lives with ideals - he does not agree to treat human beings as a tool to deter others. The film is not a definite way of saying either for the death penalty or against it. There are three perspectives here: showing and murdering, and carrying out the judgment, and a naïve somewhat idealist who in practice meets for the first time with what he has previously known from books and observations. It was shown in a very literal way and so shocking. Without wrapping cotton and without embellishing with unnecessary commercial fireworks.

A great emotional burden and at the same time no pathos. The director leaves the viewers free, outlines the problem and provokes individual reflection. In this respect, Kieślowski's film was closely associated with the winner of the Golden Palm - Romanian "4 months, 3 weeks and 2 days". Not the first is the case of using Kieślowski's achievements at the highest level, because it is enough to mention the name of Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu or Tom Tykwer.

One must clearly emphasize the genius of photography by Sławomir Idziak and the genius of Zbigniew Preisner's music and the unpresented role that these elements play in the film. Direction, script, photos, music, acting - in this order I would put together the strongest assets that create a unique and unique atmosphere of the film. However, this film can not be described in more than a dozen sentences - it's just a must see! To sum up, a very nice quote from the user-I-only-cleaning-up: "I like hot coffee, I like watching movies sipping coffee, and the coffee got cold, I did not even bring a cup to my lips" ..
