Outdoor Excursions For Senior Dogs

Senior dogs usually get slower with age; they tire out easily and they’re not as fast as they used to, especially when the weather is hot. But the good news is that there are still lots of activities that you can enjoy with your canine buddy.

Instead of the long strenuous walks, try a shorter route that ends up with a picnic or an easy stroll around a lake. Senior dogs are more sensitive to extremes in temperature, so always consider the weather before going on outdoor excursions. Also, bring along your dog’s drinking water to make sure that he stays hydrated. When the air is chilly, your dog can wear a short coat or doggy sweater.

Many senior dogs can easily become anxious or nervous as a result of their impaired sense of hearing and/or poor eyesight. So it’s a good idea to take your senior pooch to places that he is familiar with so he will be more comfortable. If your dog loves traveling, a short drive with the windows down is also an ideal outdoor activity. Visit your Animal Care for more info.
