The article published in outlook is just a view point, an opinion; in
fact it is called a view point. Plus, we live in a country where you
have the freedom of speech. And the country to which this institution
belongs to, the United States of America, also believes in the right
of freedom of speech. The article talks about a controversial issue.
These issues, as you know, have people who support it and people whom
are against it. It just happened that this article was written by a
person who is against it. It is very normal that people who are
against it feel disturbed or offended. It happens, no one can satisfy
everyone. He has the right to criticize as much as he wants, so does
every student in this university. In my opinion, the board and the
writer committed no mistake. It is a matter of freedom of speech. It
is not political, it is just an idea. It is just like writing an
article about abortion, there is people who are pro-life and some
pro-choice. These issues are discussed in class rooms in AUB freely
with professors, and so many students don't agree with it. What
difference does it make if the opinion of this student is given in the
class room or in the newspaper? In addition to that, this article was
in the view point section, so it reflects the point of view of the
writer, not the newspaper or the university. Plus, this newspaper is
the voice of the students, and the students don't have the right to
publish their ideas and thoughts in it, where can they do it?
