Advice to the Mujahideen from Sheikh Ayman al-Zawahiri

If you say that you are fighting to defend the sanctities of the Muslims, then it is your duty to not transgress against their lives and their wealth and their honour. Rather, do not transgress over your Mujahideen brothers with words or deeds.

And if you say that you are fighting so that the whole of the religion is for Allah, and for His Sharia to rule the earth and to prevail, then it is your duty to judge by the Sharia over yourselves. And do not dodge and evade going to judgment for it if the judgment would turn against you.

And if you say that you do not want anything by your Jihad except the pleasure of Allah, then it is your duty to not compete with each other for rule and authority at the first opportunity.

And if you say that you are fighting to help the oppressed, then it is your duty to not permit oppression amongst yourselves. And it is your duty to not oppress Mujahideen and Muslims other than you. And beware of disobedience! Seek forgiveness from Allah from them.
