A delegation led by DEM Party Co‑Chair Tuncer Bakırhan met with parliamentarians in Germany and UK to seek support for Abdullah Öcalan’s 27 February “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” and the ongoing peace process in Turkey.
A delegation from the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy (DEM) Party, led by co‑chair Tuncer Bakırhan, concluded visits to Germany and the UK on 25–26 June to promote the peace process in Turkey.
In Berlin, the delegation—also including Central Executive Committee member Rezan Kağanarslan, MP Nejla Demir, and party representatives Eyyüp Doru and Leyla İmret—held discussions with members of Germany’s federal parliament from all political parties, and met Green Party co‑chair Felix Banaszak. During these meetings, Bakırhan presented details of Abdullah Öcalan’s 27 February “Call for Peace and Democratic Society” and the current peace initiative, requesting cross-party support. German participants reportedly affirmed that the initiative transcends domestic politics and aligns with efforts towards democratisation in Turkey. They further mentioned working to secure formal backing from the German government.
In London, the delegation convened a round‑table at Chatham House and took part in a symposium at the House of Lords, accompanied by Kurdish politician in exile Osman Baydemir and British lawmakers. They reiterated their call for regional peace and emphasised that the century‑old status quo has perpetuated conflict.
Bakırhan emphasised that the historical regional order established after World War I has been a root cause of continuous turmoil and advocated an entirely new approach grounded in democratic principles and reconciliation.
